Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA)

The founding principle of BRFAA is to host both basic and clinical research, thus, providing an ideal setting for the emergence of translational activities. The main goal of BRFAA is to achieve excellence in the Biomedical Sciences by recruiting high quality investigators carrying out cutting-edge basic and translational research and by training young researchers in a state-of-the-art facilities, which provide a particularly stimulating scientific environment and strong research infrastructures. At present, BRFAA consists of 4 Research Centers (Institutes) specialized in different aspects of Biomedical Research focusing on the following research areas: gene regulation, stem cells, neurobiology, developmental biology, aging, cancer, inflammation, stress, and metabolic syndromes, cardiovascular pathophysiology and environmental health issues. These research activities are being pursued in the context of the following Centers: (1) Center of Basic Research, (2) Center of Clinical and Translational Research, and Experimental Surgery (3) Center of Systems Biology and (4) Center of Environmental Health.

Centre for Research Ethics & Bioethics of the University of Uppsala (CRB)

CRB was established in 2008 and it is placed at the Faculty of Medicine and administratively associated to the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences. It is a multi-disciplinary research environment and the research topics originate from collaborations with clinicians, researchers and scientists outside the centre. CRB works on clinical ethics, with a special focus on nursing ethics and the ethics of care. It is also involved in research ethics, with particular attention to the ethical and legal issues of biobank and registry research. CRB is also working on neuroethics and neurophilosphy, where it is developing a ‘fundamental’ neuroethics.

Archimedes Center for Research in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms

The Center operates as a Research Unit of the Athena Research Center. Its main mission is the funding of visiting researchers (faculty members and researchers in Greece and abroad) as well as PhD candidates in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms. Archimedes serves both basic and applied research and is connected with Greek, but also foreign University institutes and research centers. Its main mission is the funding of visiting researchers (faculty members and researchers in Greece and abroad) as well as PhD candidates in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms. It organizes systematic training and educational programs, with a view to bridge systematic communication with important institutions abroad and offer an opportunity to participate in high quality research to talented young scientists.
