Paulo Cortes is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology with a distinguished career in cancer treatment and research. Certified in Internal Medicine since 1994 and in Medical Oncology by the Portuguese Medical Order since 1996, he began his oncology career in 1991 at Guys Hospital in London. He worked as a Medical Oncologist and later as a Consultant at the University Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon from 1995 to 2015. He has been the Director of the Oncology Center at Hospital dos Lusíadas Lisbon since 2009, where he also served as Vice-President of the Ethical Committee (2013-2019). He has held key positions such as President of the Portuguese Oncology Society (2018-2019) and served as a National Representative for Portugal at the European Society of Medical Oncology (2012-2018). He is also an active member of ESMO and ASCO. He has contributed significantly to oncology literature as Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Portuguesa de Oncologia (2019-2022) and is currently an ESMO advisor for the mypath-cancercare.eu project (2023).
