Professor José Fragata completed his medical education in Portugal and the United Kingdom. He received his PhD in Medicine in 1991 and habilitation degree in surgery in 1993 from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He is now a retired full professor of surgery at Nova Medical School, having served on the General Council, chaired the Ethics Council and served as Vice-Rector at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He co-chairs the postgraduate program in Health Management at INDEG-ISCTE at IUL.
Professor José Fragata is a cardiothoracic surgeon with a vast experience in cardiac surgery for adults and children and in thoracic transplantation, having had a long and well national and international career in this specialty, cumulatively with a well-diversified and awarded academic career.
